This Manga is Amazing! The Number One Work "Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia" to Air on TV Asahi in 2026, Teaser Visual Unveiled

The much-anticipated anime adaptation of the acclaimed historical manga "Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia" has officially been announced for broadcast on the TV Asahi network in 2026. Along with this announcement, the very first super teaser visual for the series has also been revealed.

The original work is a manga by Tomato Soup, currently serialized on Souffle. The story is set in the 13th-century Mongol Empire and follows Shitala (Fatima), a former slave girl taken prisoner who is forced to serve in the imperial harem. There, she meets Doregene, the Mongol Emperor's sixth wife, and together they use their wit to shake the foundations of the empire in this harem tale. Having ranked first in "This Manga is Amazing! 2023 [Women’s Edition]" and landed on the "Manga Taisho" Awards list for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, the series has garnered significant attention.

Animation production will be handled by Science SARU, a studio known for works such as "DAN DA DAN," "The Heike Story," and "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!". The newly released visual depicts a brilliant starlit sky stretching above the vast Mongolian plains, rendered in the studio's signature distinctive style and color palette.

Additionally, the work will be showcased at North America’s largest anime event, "Anime Expo 2025," held in July. On-site, a special talk is planned featuring Mr. Go Inagaki from Science SARU, who is also the producer of the series, and Mr. Kazuki Endo from TV Asahi, promising an early discussion of the appeal of this work.

[Original Story Synopsis]
In the harem, wisdom is beauty. In the 13th century, Fatima (Shitala), a woman from Iran—renowned at that time for its cutting-edge medical and scientific expertise—is taken captive by the world’s mightiest empire, the Mongol Empire, and assigned to serve in the harem. Seeking a realm where she can put her knowledge and intellect to use, Fatima encounters Doregene, the sixth wife of the empire’s second emperor, Ogotai, a woman with complex feelings toward the Mongol Empire. Thus begins the tale of two women, as spun by Tomato Soup—the prodigy of historical manga—who would go on to shake the foundations of this great empire in this Mongolian imperial harem saga!
