To commemorate the release of the 20th and final volume of the shogi light novel series "Ryuoh no Oshigoto!" (published by GA Bunko), which has surpassed 2.5 million copies in circulation, a special event is being held.

The series, which began with its first volume in 2015, is a light novel centered around shogi. It follows the story of Yaichi Kuzuryu, a young shogi prodigy who, at the age of 16, became the youngest holder of the most prestigious title in the shogi world, "Ryuoh." The narrative also focuses on Ai Hinatsuru, a girl who wishes to become his disciple, and Ginko Sora, Yaichi's senior disciple and a female shogi player. The novel explores the depth of shogi and the growth of its characters through intense competitions and interactions with unique rivals within the shogi community.

The series has often drawn attention for being said to "have reality surpass fiction" whenever major news emerges from the shogi world. In 2016, the year following its initial release, the series won the 28th Shogi Pen Club Award in the literary category. It also topped the bunko category in "This Light Novel is Amazing! 2017" and "This Light Novel is Amazing! 2018" (published by Takarajimasha). Furthermore, a TV anime adaptation aired in 2018.

During the "Final Volume Commemoration Fair," from Saturday, July 12, 2025, to Friday, July 25, 2025, volumes 1 to 3 of the main series and the first volume of the short story collection "The Ryuo's Work is Never Done! - Special Edition" will be available for free on the SBCr eBook Store, an eBook sales site by SB Creative. Simultaneously, volumes 4 to 19 of the main series and volumes 2 to 3 of the special editions are on sale at 50% to 70% off.
