The manga “Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt,” with original story by Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino and illustrated by Yasuo Ohtagaki, has reached its final chapter in the 2025 Issue 20 of "Big Comic Superior" (Shogakukan), released on Friday, September 26. The final chapter is Chapter 229, bringing to a close a serialization that lasted approximately 13 years.

“Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt” is a Gundam series set in the “Thunderbolt Sector” during the last days of the One Year War, depicting the fateful confrontation between two ace pilots: Io Fleming of the Earth Federation Forces and Daryl Lorenz of the Principality of Zeon.

Fans who read the final chapter have left various comments, such as, “Thunderbolt was cool until the very end,” “Thunderbolt had a great final chapter,” “This kind of epilogue is wonderful,” “Thunderbolt was a masterpiece,” “I’ll buy Superior as a memento today,” “Thank you for your hard work, Ohtagaki-sensei,” and “That was such a cool ending.”

Created by Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino, with manga by Yasuo Ohtagaki, “Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt” had been serialized in "Big Comic Superior" since 2012. The manga has reached up to Volume 26, with total series circulation exceeding 5.5 million copies, making it a popular work. The final volume of the manga is scheduled for release on December 19. On the same day, there will be a screening and after-talk event for “Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky” at Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo. The first season of the anime aired from 2015 to 2016, with the second season released in 2017, and a theatrical edition featuring re-edited footage and new scenes was also screened.
