[Photos/Images] The Film "Hypnosis Mic" Surpasses 1 Million Attendees! Box Office Revenue Exceeds 2.5 Billion Yen, Continuously Breaking Records with "Two Japanese Firsts" 1st

The film "Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-" has surpassed 1 million attendees and 2.5 billion yen in box office revenue. It is breaking records as the first Japanese film to exceed 2.5 billion yen with 100 or fewer screening theaters (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha).

This work is Japan's first based on "Hypnosis Mic," a music-originated character rap project that launched in 2017. Audiences vote on the outcome of rap battles using their smartphones, with a total of 5 voting sessions taking place during the screening. The story changes based on the voting results, with a total of 48 screening patterns and 7 different endings prepared.

Screenings began in February 2025 at 85 theaters, and subsequently continued at a limited number of 60 to 80 theaters due to the availability of interactive screening equipment. Starting from Tuesday, September 2nd, a revival screening is being held at 66 theaters nationwide to commemorate the project's 8th anniversary.

While there have been numerous past films that started with small-scale releases at around 10 theaters, gained momentum, expanded to over 150 theaters, and became major hits, since the "Weekly Movie Rankings" began in 2004, this "Hypnosis Mic movie" (Hypmubi) is the first Japanese film to surpass 2.5 billion yen with 100 or fewer screening theaters from its opening day.

This means the film has achieved the "two Japanese firsts" crown: Japan's first in Japanese cinema history, and the first in Japan to <surpass 2.5 billion yen> with 100 or fewer screening theaters.
