Cosplayer Kimura updated their X account, revealing their recreation of a popular manga character, which has become a major topic of conversation with people saying "too similar."
In the published images, Kimura is captured wearing a Chunichi Dragons uniform, looking at the camera with upturned eyes. The characteristic droopy eyes, languid expression, and the pose with both hands placed under the chin in an appealing manner are exactly like Minako Agawa, a popular character appearing in the manga "Strikeout Pitch." Accompanied by the spoiled line "Take sensei to Vantelin Dome Nagoya," a play on a famous line from the manga, fans have been expressing their astonishment at the high level of completion.
"Strikeout Pitch" is a baseball manga serialized by Kyu Sumiyoshi on "Shonen Jump+" (Shueisha). Set in the high school baseball scene of Kanagawa Prefecture, it depicts the struggles of pitcher Fusetsu Kiriyama, who can only pitch with full power three times per game in a "3-pitch showdown," and captain Heitara Kobori, who tries to exploit him. Minako Agawa, whom Kimura cosplayed, is a classical literature teacher who became a manager without knowing much about baseball rules, and her unique character has gained popularity.
In response to this post, fans flooded the comments with praise such as "too similar," "complete reproduction of Agawa-sensei," and "too cute for Agawa-sensei." Furthermore, the official X account of "Strikeout Pitch" also quoted this post, giving it what appears to be unexpected official recognition (?). The reply section also showed great excitement with affectionate retorts like "Go by yourself! Go by bike!" following a scene of Agawa-sensei from the manga.
