"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," released nationwide on Friday, April 24, has become a record-breaking hit in both Japan and international markets. As of Tuesday, May 12, cumulative domestic box office revenue reached 6,017,108,670 yen. Furthermore, the global total has surpassed 941,362,225 dollars (approximately 148.4 billion yen), posting staggering figures.

This film is the second installment in the series, following "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which earned over 1.3 billion dollars (approximately 200 billion yen) at the global box office in 2023. Co-produced by Illumination's Chris Meledandri and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the project was co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo.

Domestically, the momentum shows no signs of slowing down as crowds continue to flock to theaters. According to data as of Tuesday, May 12, the film quickly surpassed the 6 billion yen milestone. These earnings continue to set new records for foreign films released in fiscal year 2026.

The movie is also showing overwhelming strength in overseas markets. Entering its seventh week of release, cumulative international box office earnings have reached 528,758,000 dollars (approximately 83.3 billion yen). It is charging ahead as a major hit, surpassing the 900 million dollar mark worldwide (Source: Box Office Mojo, provisional figures as of May 13).

Inheriting the fervor of its predecessor, this work is once again sweeping the globe. Expectations are mounting for further record-breaking domestic figures and for the film to cross the major 1 billion dollar milestone at the worldwide box office.
