Kingdom Hearts Game Gets Anime Adaptation With All-New Story! Fans Rejoice: "This Is What We've Been Waiting For," "The Moment a Legend Becomes Reality"

Production has been announced on Kingdom Hearts The Series (working title), the first original anime series based on the globally hit video game franchise Kingdom Hearts, sparking major buzz among fans.

Kingdom Hearts is a role-playing game (RPG) series developed by Disney and Square Enix. It follows protagonist Sora, who wields the Keyblade, a weapon only the chosen can carry, as he journeys with his friends through various Disney and Pixar worlds to confront the darkness threatening them.

The new project is a co-production between Disney Kids & Family and Square Enix featuring an entirely original story, with the creative team, including series creator and director Tetsuya Nomura, also on board. It is set to air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney's official streaming service, Disney+.

Commenting on the announcement, Ayo Davis, President of Disney Kids & Family, shared her excitement, saying, "We are thrilled to bring the worlds fans have journeyed through in the games for so long to life in an entirely new way through this series."

The visual released alongside the announcement depicts a mysterious boy holding the Keyblade, drawn in a style that evokes Japanese anime, distinct from how he appears in the games.
