“I Want to Know the Story of the Brothers and the Story of the Twins Soon”: Hagaren and Daemons of the Shadow Realm Collaborations Set to Run Simultaneously at USJ in Spring 2027

As a follow-up to the lineup for Universal Cool Japan 2027, a special event being held at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in celebration of its 25th anniversary (rolling out in phases from December 2), it was announced on October 28 that limited-time programs for two popular works by original creator Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist and Daemons of the Shadow Realm, will open simultaneously in spring 2027. The news has set social media abuzz, with reactions like “Seriously?! Hagaren and Daemons of the Shadow Realm?! I guess I have to go!!”

Fullmetal Alchemist is a masterpiece of dark fantasy in which the Elric brothers, having broken the taboo of “human transmutation” to resurrect their late mother, set out on a journey in search of the Philosopher's Stone to recover what they lost. The TV anime aired from April 2009 to July 2010, and the series has surpassed 90 million copies in circulation worldwide. Now celebrating the 25th anniversary of the work, it continues to enjoy passionate popularity around the world under the nickname “Hagaren.” The park's first collaboration with the series was the special event Fullmetal Alchemist Premier Tour, held in spring 2005. It drew attention as the park's first collaboration with a Japanese TV anime, and now, 22 years later, the series will return to the park once again.

In addition, this time a collaboration with a theme park will be held at the same time for the first time for the TV anime Daemons of the Shadow Realm. The series is currently running in Monthly Shonen Gangan, with more than 7.5 million copies in circulation across the series. It is a major hit that has been greenlit for a second season following its spring TV anime adaptation. Many fans are hooked on the complex mysteries and fates surrounding Yuru and Asa, the “twins who divide night and day,” and the thrilling, fresh Tsugai battles against a new, formidable enemy.

Fan excitement is at a fever pitch over the prospect of a “super-real” experience that lets visitors step right into the worlds of the two popular works by Hiromu Arakawa. On social media, posts raising expectations keep pouring in, such as “This is too hot!”, “This collab… I can already feel the spending spree coming,” “I want to see the merch details,” “Hagaren & Yomitsuga! Time to buy an annual pass,” and “I want to know the story of the brothers and the story of the twins soon.”
