What if Suguru Geto (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) and Satoru Gojo (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura) could have remained "best friends" forever...? In episode 39 of the anime "Jujutsu Kaisen," the way Geto speaks gently about Gojo left a strong impression on viewers, with comments like "the sense of loneliness is quite moving."
The currently streaming anime "Jujutsu Kaisen" is based on the manga of the same name by Gege Akutami, which has exceeded 100 million copies in circulation. The story depicts the battles between "curses," which are born from human negative emotions, and the "jujutsu sorcerers" who exorcise them using jujutsu. The plot takes a significant turn when Yuji Itadori (voiced by Junya Enoki), who ends up sharing his body with the "King of Curses," Ryomen Sukuna, enrolls in the "Jujutsu High," a specialized institution against curses.
The TV anime's first season, which began in October 2020, garnered significant attention not only domestically but also worldwide. The second season, aired from July to December 2023, depicted the story of "Hidden Inventory / Premature Death," which delves into the high school days of "the strongest sorcerer" Satoru Gojo and "the most malevolent curse user" Suguru Geto, as well as the "Shibuya Incident," continuing the timeline from the first season. Production of the sequel, "Culling Game," is already underway. Additionally, the "Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death" movie compilation is set to be released on May 30, 2025.
During their student years, Geto was a sorcerer at the same "Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College" as Gojo, and the two shared a strong bond, acknowledging each other as "the strongest." However, Geto later committed numerous incidents of cursing ordinary people to death, leading to a hostile relationship with Gojo.
In Episode 39 of "Shibuya Incident", a precious scene is depicted where Geto talks about his relationship with Gojo. The twin sorcerers, Hasaba Mimiko (voiced by Matsuda Risae) and Hasaba Nanako (voiced by Matsuda Sotsumi), who admire Geto, recalled the days they spent with Geto. In that flashback scene, when Nanako asked Geto about Gojo, Geto gently answered with a smile, "We were best friends. We had a fight, and that was it." The expression on Geto's face when he said "We were best friends" was completely different from the cold look he had when he exploded his true feelings of "I hate monkeys (non-sorcerers)" after opposing Gojo.
