"The Apothecary Diaries" is an anime adaptation of the novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. Set in the imperial palace, it follows the story of a young girl named Maomao, who becomes a "poison tester" and uses her knowledge of poisons and medicines to solve various complex cases that occur within the palace.

This palace mystery-solving entertainment has been serialized in two monthly magazines, "Big Gangan" (Square Enix) and "Sunday GX" (Shogakukan), with the series achieving a cumulative total of over 40 million copies in circulation. The TV anime aired consecutively for two seasons starting in October 2023, with Maomao's unique detective skills and her comedic interactions with the handsome eunuch Jinshi gaining popularity and even topping X trends. The second season began airing from January 10, 2025, over two consecutive cours.
