"So Close Yet So Far..." Anime "The Apothecary Diaries" Episode 34 Turns Into a True Horror Show! Viewers Chilled by Whisper from Behind

In the episode 34 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries" that aired on March 14, Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yuki) participates in a ghost story gathering. She realizes midway through that a carbon monoxide poisoning incident is about to occur and prevents it. Suddenly, she hears a voice from behind saying, "So close yet so far..." This sent shivers down the spines of many viewers online, with comments like "Scary!" and "That surprised me!" flooding in.

In episode 34, titled "A Ghost Story," Maomao is taken by Infa (voiced by Rie Hikisaka) to a ghost story gathering. Welcomed by a Senior court lady (voiced by Aya Hisakawa) who is leading the event, Maomao and the others take turns sharing scary stories in a closed room, extinguishing a candle each time and tossing it into the charcoal.

As Maomao listens to the stories, she starts to feel drowsy and suddenly realizes something, rushing to open the window. Some of the court ladies are already faint, and Maomao explains, "The lingering fire is causing harmful air to fill the room!” indicating a carbon monoxide poisoning situation.

Although Maomao saves the court ladies from danger, she then hears a woman's voice from behind saying, "So close yet so far..." and notices that the Senior court lady leading the gathering has disappeared.
