The anime "The Apothecary Diaries" is based on a light novel by Hyuganatsu. It has also been adapted into a manga, with the series surpassing 40 million copies in circulation. It is a mystery-solving entertainment story where the apothecary's daughter, Maomao, who has an abnormal obsession with poisons and medicines, and the enigmatic and handsome eunuch, Jinshi, take on challenging cases that arise in the imperial court.

Synopsis
Accompanying Jinshi, who was invited to hunt by the father of Lady Loulang, Maomao temporarily leaves the rear palace. Together with Jinshi, Gaoshun, and his son Basen, they head to Shihoku Province, governed by the Shi family. Amidst a lavish banquet, Jinshi spends his time with windows tightly shut, using a mask and a pseudonym. While Maomao finds Jinshi and the others' behavior puzzling, an underlying conspiracy begins to unfold.
