The story of the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury" began with a prologue episode released ahead of the main series. The girl's name is Ericht Samaya (voiced by Kana Ichinose). She lived at the advanced medical research facility Vanadis on Mercury, spending peaceful days alongside her mother, Elnora Samaya (voiced by Mamiko Noto), who is a researcher. However, their tranquil life came to an abrupt end.

The neural connection system "GUND Format" installed in the Gundam-type mobile suits was deemed a dangerous weapon technology that imposed excessive burdens on pilots, and for this reason, it became a target for purging by the corporate consortium Bennerit Group.

In response to this mandate, the group's military unit "Dominicus Squad" was dispatched. The facility suffered thorough destruction, and researchers lost their lives one after another. Amidst the chaos, Elnora discovered Ericht in the cockpit of one of the research units, Gundam Lfrith, and joined her in the cockpit.

To activate the Gundam, a neural connection between the pilot and the machine is needed, and even adults with aptitudes may lose their lives due to the extremely dangerous technology. Elnora herself was a pilot but had not been able to activate it due to incompatibility. However, in this emergency, Lfrith showed a response.
