![[Photos/Images] Did They Really Recreate the Last Shooting!? The Homage to the Epic Duel Between Amuro and Char in 'Gundam' Was Intense 1st](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/2/2/724w/img_22263a9a7ebe9b44d98761b3b442bcdc2840186.png)
In episode 22 of the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury," a fencing duel unfolds between Suletta Mercury (voiced by Kana Ichinose) and Guel Jeturk (voiced by Yohei Azakami). The composition and direction of this scene are a clear homage to the iconic showdown between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable in the final battle of the 1979 anime "Mobile Suit Gundam."
At Asticassia School of Technology, duels between mobile suits have been the means of proving one's strength. These duels have determined status, honor, and human relationships. In episode 22, Suletta ends up dueling Guel to meet Miorine Rembran (voiced by Lynn). However, this time, the duel was not with mobile suits but a fencing match in person.
What caught the eye was the color of the fencing gear worn by the two characters. Suletta was dressed in white, while Guel donned red attire. This color scheme is reminiscent of the final battle at A Baoa Qu, with Amuro in white and Char in red, making it clear to long-time fans that this was not just any ordinary duel.
The scene that was even more symbolic was right after Suletta delivered the decisive blow, marking her victory. The way Suletta stood, holding her sword aloft as if to strike the fallen Guel, was a direct reenactment of that famous scene from "Mobile Suit Gundam," where Amuro, piloting the Gundam with only one arm left, fired his last shot.
