"Chiikawa" Episode 63: A Beautiful Tale of Friendship Between Chiikawa and Hachiware

Starting from episode 57 of the anime “Chiikawa,” the Grass Pulling Certification Exam begins. Upon learning that Chiikawa (voiced by Haruka Aoki) is challenging the “Level 5 Grass Pulling Certification,” Hachiware (voiced by Makoto Tanaka) decides to take the exam as well. The two struggle with the difficult test and, as a result, only Hachiware passes while Chiikawa fails. With their fates diverging, Hachiware finds it hard to genuinely celebrate his success.

In episode 63, Chiikawa visits Hachiware upon waking up in the morning. Despite being flustered and greeting Hachiware with an awkward “Ah, eh, good morning,” Chiikawa shyly hands something over. It’s a cookie wrapped in a shape resembling Hachiware. The reason Chiikawa gives it to Hachiware is to celebrate his “Level 5 Grass Pulling Certification” success. Despite being initially depressed about failing the exam, Chiikawa has managed to recover enough to celebrate Hachiware’s achievement.

Moreover, Chiikawa gives Hachiware a workbook to quiz him with, showing Chiikawa’s determination and positive attitude towards the next exam.

This scene prompted reactions such as “a bundle of ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘congratulations,’” “Chiikawa’s heart is pure. I hope they never change,” and “the friendship between the two is wonderful.” Additionally, many expressed, “This is my favorite episode” and called it “a masterpiece.”
