"From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman" is a light novel by author Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrator Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. The comic version by Kazuki Takuto is also being serialized, and the series has sold over 7 million copies. Beryl Gardinant, who has trained many students as the master of a swordsman's dojo in the countryside, is called to the royal capital to become a guidance role for the knights. It's a fantasy about an old man rising to the top.

Episode 1: "The Old Country Bumpkin Goes to the Capital"
Synopsis:
Beryl, who lives peacefully as a swordsmanship instructor in the countryside, is visited by his former student, Allucia. Now having risen to the rank of Captain of the Kingdom's Knights, Allucia informs Beryl that she has recommended him for the role of special instructor for the knights. Though bewildered, Beryl accepts the role. However, the Deputy Captain, Henbritz, who is suspicious of the situation, challenges Beryl to a duel.
