However, Char noticed the bazooka's presence just before it fired and guarded with his shield. While he managed to avoid a direct hit, Char was visibly surprised by the unexpected attack. The fact that the bazooka was a projectile and therefore slower than a beam rifle is considered one reason Char was able to survive.

On the other hand, Amuro appeared quite confident in the set bazooka strategy, expressing surprise with "Dodged!?" when it was blocked by the shield. Nonetheless, in the free-moving environment of outer space, Amuro's ability to predict the opponent's movements and successfully hit the shield was at an astonishing level.

The anime "Mobile Suit Gundam" was produced by Sunrise and aired from April 1979 to January 1980. Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, it pioneered the "real robot anime" genre and hugely influenced subsequent animations. The theatrical version "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack" was released in March 1988 as the first Gundam film created as an original theatrical production, set in the year UC 0093, fourteen years after the original "Mobile Suit Gundam."
