In Episode 40 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries," which has been airing sequentially since April 25, Suirei (CV: Kaori Nazuka), who was previously presumed missing after faking her death with "Resurrection Medicine," makes a shocking reappearance, astounding viewers.

In Episode 40, "Nesting Malice," Maomao (CV: Aoi Yūki) suspects that the lady-in-waiting of the clinic, Shenlü (CV: Masako Katsuki), might be the mastermind who taught the head maid how to make abortifacients. When Maomao visits Shinryoku, a "beautiful new eunuch" who had recently become the talk of the palace, appears. Upon seeing the "beautiful eunuch," Maomao realizes that it is none other than Suirei, who had been missing all along.

Suirei first appeared in Season 1, Episode 13 of the anime. Though she schemed in several incidents to assassinate Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka), she failed and was believed to have died by ingesting poison. However, in Episode 20, Maomao deduced that what Suirei ingested was the "Resurrection Medicine," which put her in a temporary state of death before she revived and escaped on her own.

The "Resurrection Medicine" was hinted at when Maomao met Suirei in the medicinal herb garden. While the details of the medicine are unclear, Maomao speculates that Suirei used the highly toxic mandrake to create the "Resurrection Medicine," based on Suirei's comment about "planting morning glories."

Reappearing before Maomao, Suirei takes Shisui (CV: Asami Seto) hostage and instructs Maomao to leave the inner palace with her. Though Maomao is bewildered, saying, "Leave the inner palace? That's...," Suirei insists, "You will surely come with me. Don't you want to know how to make the 'Resurrection Medicine'?"
