——What aspects did you want to express with this cosplay, and what did you pay attention to?

Misono:As a particular focus on the costume, I made the skirt length quite short. With the standard uniform skirt length, it doesn't achieve the nice balance seen in the anime, so I adjusted it while looking at the overall balance. Also, I've cosplayed as Mikoto many times, but I'm always making minor changes by experimenting with wigs, hairpins, shoes, etc., to get closer to the character.

——The 'A Certain' series has been published since 2004, but could you tell us the first series you encountered and when?

Misono:The first series I encountered was the first season of the 'A Certain Magical Index' anime. I think it was around 2016. I heard about a cosplay-friendly street event being held in Tachikawa City at that time, and, thinking that I might be able to see cosplays of works set in Tachikawa, I investigated and it was one of them.

It was already a popular and attractive work, so I quickly watched 'Index' followed by 'Railgun'. I got hooked there, and even though I had originally intended to participate in a cosplay from a different work, I participated in Mikoto's cosplay.

——That's an episode that shows your passion for the series! What attracts you to 'Railgun'?

Misono: I love the realism in the character relationships. In most anime where many girls appear, they often use nicknames or first names, but in 'Railgun', with the exception of 1-2 very close friends, almost everyone else uses last names with "san," which feels more realistic.

That said, the aloofness towards Mikoto from Kuroko, Uiharu, and Saten, who were put in a state of having their memories altered to a first-meeting state later on, was extremely lonely, so I also felt that they had truly become close friends, even if their manner of addressing each other hadn't changed.
