The scene of Maomao shaking with her cat ears head caused viewers to laugh with comments like "Maomao getting all sparkly and hissing is just too cute" and "Maomao's reaction lol she looks like she's seriously unhappy lol."

Currently streaming in its entirety, the anime "The Apothecary Diaries" is based on the light novel of the same name by Natsu Hyuga. It has been serialized in two monthly magazines as well, with the series' total circulation exceeding 40 million copies. The TV anime aired consecutively for two seasons starting October 2023, featuring Maomao working as a poison tester in the imperial court, her mystery-solving adventures, and the comic interactions between Maomao and Jinshi which gained popularity and became a major talking point. The second season of the anime has been airing since January 2025.
