'From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman' is an anime adaptation based on the novel by author Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrator Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. The original work has surpassed a cumulative total of 8 million copies sold in the series and shares the story of a middling swordsman instructor, the middle-aged Beryl Gardinant (CV: Hiroaki Hirata), who operates a dojo in the countryside. He was nominated as a special instructor for the kingdom's knightly order, due to his former disciple's influence, and thus faces various formidable adversaries.
