While eating, Amuro Ray (CV: Toru Furuya) witnesses an elderly man stealing food meant for a child. Shocked, Amuro offers his own meal to the children, saying, "Let's eat together." His childhood friend Fraw Bow (CV: Rumiko Ukai) scolds him, saying, "You can't give away your food like that!"
In fact, Amuro himself is in a complicated position regarding meals. As the pilot of the Gundam, he is provided with much more food as a valuable asset, leading to complaints from those around him. Perhaps because he is privileged when it comes to meals, Amuro couldn't bring himself to directly accuse the old man on the spot.
There are other scenes in "Mobile Suit Gundam" that highlight the importance of food in wartime, such as the head chef explaining, "Salt is a strategic resource!" Even amid harsh battles, humans must eat. In the meal scenes of both "Mobile Suit Gundam" and the Gundam series as a whole, one can sense the creators' desire to portray this reality.
The currently streaming "Mobile Suit Gundam" is a robot anime produced by Sunrise that originally aired from April 1979 to January 1980 under the direction of Yoshiyuki Tomino. It pioneered the "real robot anime" genre and had a huge impact on subsequent robot anime. Although the show didn't initially achieve high ratings, its popularity soared as a result of reruns and theatrical releases, sparking the Gunpla model kit boom. Since then, numerous sequels and spin-off works have been produced, and the series remains extremely popular to this day. The new anime "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is currently being broadcast as of April 2025.
