A Single Glance Was Enough to Understand... Maomao’s Overwhelming Hatred Freezes Jinshi in “The Apothecary Diaries”

In episode 18 of the anime “The Apothecary Diaries,” the fleeting expression of anger that Maomao (CV: Aoi Yūki) showed was so intense that it caused Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka) to recoil, leaving not only him but also viewers shivering, with comments like “That’s trauma-inducingly terrifying…”

Lakan (CV: Takuya Kirimoto), a military strategist, is Maomao’s biological father, but is hated by his daughter for a particular reason. When Jinshi approaches Maomao and tells her, “There’s an official who wants to meet you next time,” Maomao realizes that this “official” is Lakan and, for an instant, displays a powerful surge of anger.

Pierced by Maomao’s sharp and dark gaze, all Jinshi can manage is to say, “I’ll try to turn down the request.” Maomao quickly returns to her usual impassive demeanor, but Jinshi remains unsettled, unable to hide his confusion: “That’s the first time I’ve seen her like that. I never want to see that face again.”
