"Ranka is strong" - A 'Macross Frontier' cosplay born from deep understanding

——What aspects did you want to express in this cosplay, and what points are you particularly fond of?

Mio: It's definitely the "Kira☆" sparkle! When you think of Ranka... that's it! Also, Ranka isn't really the bubbly type, so I was conscious of poses that would convey her dignity as a singer and diva, while still showing her cuteness.

——You participated in the "Houkago Overflow" costume, which is a choice that really appeals to 'Macross Frontier' fans. I think this was a choice born from your deep love and understanding of Ranka, but what kind of image do you have of Ranka as a girl?

Mio: I don't know how well I understand Ranka, but she's strong. At first, she was just a girl who loved singing and had dreams of becoming a singer, but after meeting Alto and Sheryl, she grew to express her feelings and words straightforwardly, to act on what she wanted to do, and even continued singing on life-threatening battlefields. That growth is what I find attractive about her.

——Among Ranka's scenes, are there any that left a particular impression on you?

Mio: My favorite scene is in the movie 'Macross Frontier: The Wings of Farewell', where even though she already knows the truth, she confesses her feelings to Alto, and without waiting for an answer, she tells him "Promise me you'll definitely come back" - conveying her wish for Alto's safe return with so many emotions. I always cry during the singing scene that follows, and I really felt Ranka's strength there.

——Please tell us about any announcements regarding your activities or future cosplay you'd like to try.

Mio: Cosplay I'd like to try includes Reimu Hakurei from 'Touhou Project' and Haruka　Amami from 'THE IDOLM@STER'. I still want to do more Nijisanji too! I usually do cosplay performances in various places, not just dancing but also singing, so if anyone's interested, please come check it out! Thank you for interviewing me.
