Seeing Sodon—also known as White Base(?)—used in such a genuinely assault carrier-like manner, the internet was abuzz with comments like “This was electrifying,” “A rare scene where an assault landing ship actually performs an assault landing!” “Unbelievably cool,” and “Even as a fan from the first generation, I thought, ‘So that’s why it was designed that way,’ and it totally clicked for me.”

“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest entry in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, which has been running since 1979. The story follows Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), a high school girl living peacefully in a space colony, who gets swept up into the world of illegal mobile suit duels called “Clan Battle” after encountering a mysterious girl named Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa). Co-produced by Studio Khara, known for the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series, and Sunrise, the collaboration has become a hot topic. The theatrical film, which premiered this January ahead of the TV series, was a massive hit, grossing around 3.4 billion yen at the box office.
