The anime “The Apothecary Diaries” is based on the light novel by Natsu Hyuuga. It has been adapted into manga form as well, and the series has surpassed 40 million copies in circulation. The story is a mystery-solving entertainment featuring Maomao, a pharmacist’s daughter with an abnormal obsession with poisons and medicines, and Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Ōtsuka), an enigmatic and handsome eunuch. Together, they tackle difficult cases occurring within the inner palace.

[Synopsis]
The warehouse that Maomao and Kyou-u sneak into turns out to be the workshop of Feifa, where even Jinshi had been attacked during the hunt. There, the two are discovered by the cold-hearted Shenmei, who arrives escorting Ayla, one of the special envoys. Although they narrowly escape punishment, Maomao is captured and imprisoned in a “fortress” surrounded by snow and formidable ramparts. Faced with impregnable walls and a large number of Feifa, Maomao realizes she has been swept into an unprecedented incident capable of shaking the very nation itself.
