First-Generation Gundam Fans Moved to Tears?! The Reason Why the Line “He held out well, Dren” Strikes a Chord

The latest entry in the series, “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” features a captivating parallel-world storyline inspired by “Mobile Suit Gundam.” In Episode 8, Dren (voiced by Taichi Takeda), Char Aznable’s (voiced by Yūki Shin) aide, takes center stage, prompting long-time Gundam fans to recall and be deeply touched by “that line.”

In “Mobile Suit Gundam,” Dren is a Zeon soldier who serves as an aide to the “Red Comet,” Char Aznable. He is trusted by Char, and when Dren perishes in battle after failing a mission, Char mourned by saying, “I can’t believe Dren couldn’t hold out until my arrival,” expressing his regret.

However, in “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” Dren succeeds in holding out! In Episode 8, to thwart the Earth Federation’s operation to drop Solomon Fortress, Dren takes command aboard the assault landing ship Sodon, successfully breaking through the enemy's defensive lines. Char then praises him, saying, “He held out well, Dren.”
