“From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman” is an anime adaptation based on the novel by Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. The original work has surpassed a cumulative 8 million copies in circulation, and tells the story of Beryl Gardinant (voiced by Hiroaki Hirata), a middle-aged, unremarkable sword instructor running a dojo in the countryside. After being approached by a former disciple, he is appointed as a special instructor for the kingdom’s knight order and ends up confronting a variety of formidable foes.
