Sumire Uesaka, the Voice of Alya in the Anime "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian," Appears! Passionately Discusses the Appeal of Her Favorite Classic from 1983

In the "ShibuAni Special Feature," the show took a deeper look into "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian," whose second anime season has been decided. Uesaka, who plays Alya, shared behind-the-scenes stories from the production.

Uesaka, who actually studied in the Department of Russian at university, commented, "I studied for four years, but it’s really difficult to make Russian, with its sharp pronunciation and trilled R’s, sound cute in a performance. Even if the pronunciation is accurate, if the way I said the lines sounded too harsh, I wouldn’t get the OK. That was the challenge I had to overcome." She referred to her most difficult dubbing scene as the speech in episode 12, saying, "Since it was a speech to the students, it wasn’t supposed to be 'tsundere', but the tone still needed to be soft—without becoming too sweet. That scene took the most time to record; it took about an hour."

Uesaka then introduced her "favorite scenes," such as "the sock scene in episode 1," and "the beautiful opening animation." She put quiz questions to the studio members, asking things like, "What does the Russian in the opening sequence mean?" and "How did Yuki Suō react when told by the student council president that Alya was her favorite?" Those who answered correctly received a special reward from Uesaka herself…!?

There will be no episode next week, and "SHIBUYA ANIME BASE" #51 will return on June 27 (Friday) at 9:00 PM, with special guest voice actress Ayaka Ohashi and a feature on "Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid."
