After Maomao solved the case with so little information, praise poured in: “The process of pinning down the cause was as excellent as ever,” “Maomao, the master detective,” and “Arriving at the idea of a dust explosion with so little information really is impressive.” The dust explosion episode, familiar in fiction, had fans excited, saying things like “It's everyone’s favorite nerdy topic—dust explosions!” and “I never thought the general geek reference of dust explosions would show up in ‘The Apothecary Diaries’!”

Currently available for binge-watching, the anime "The Apothecary Diaries" is based on the light novel of the same name by Natsu Hyuuga. The work has been adapted into manga series in two monthly magazines and has surpassed 40 million copies in total circulation. The TV anime aired in two consecutive cours starting in October 2023, with Maomao's mystery-solving adventures as a poison tester in the inner palace, along with her comical exchanges with Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka), becoming a huge topic of conversation. The anime's second season began airing in January 2025.
