The late developments depicted in the theatrical version of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack" are indeed a story of discovering light amid despair.
As the giant meteor Axis is about to be dropped onto Earth, the operation led by Char Aznable (CV: Shuuichi Ikeda) of Neo Zeon is on the brink of success. The Earth Federation Forces are making an all-out effort to stop it, but due to a nuclear explosion set by Char, Axis is split, and a smaller part falls into Earth's gravitational field.
Is this the end...? Amid this, Amuro Ray (CV: Toru Furuya), piloting the Nu Gundam, attempts to push back Axis alone. "It's just one big rock. I'll push it away with a Gundam!" The former child soldier risked his life, believing in the future of humanity.
As if responding to his determination, Amuro's comrades from Londo Bell, and even mobile suits that were supposed to be enemies, began to cooperate in stopping Axis's trajectory. At that moment, the psychoframe installed in the Nu Gundam began to resonate strongly, and a mysterious luminescence appeared around Axis.
Later analysis suggested that since Char's Sazabi also had a psychoframe installed, the mutual interaction between the two machines, along with humanity's collective subconscious reacting to the threat of Earth's destruction, generated a massive amount of energy.
