"The Apothecary Diaries" anime is based on the light novel series by Hyuganatsu. The series has also been made into manga and has surpassed 40 million copies in total circulation. It follows the pharmacologist’s daughter Maomao, who is obsessed with poisons and medicines, and the enigmatic and strikingly handsome eunuch Jinshi, as they tackle tough mysteries that unfold in the imperial court—a mystery-solving entertainment story.

[Synopsis]
Maomao, who had been held captive, has been safely rescued, bringing Jinshi a brief moment of relief. However, the leader of Shi Clan, Shishou himself, finally appears. Though he is informed of his arrest for treason, and his escape route should be cut off, Shishou somehow seems to retain a confident air. Meanwhile, Loulan, heading to Shenmei to accomplish what must be done, begins to reveal the hidden secrets of Shi Clan.
