Further, toward the finale, there was a scene where the “Endymion Unit” equipped on the GQuuuuuuX began to speak: “I don’t want to see it anymore. The sight of Gundam killing Lalah again.” The mysterious voice was performed by Toru Furuya, renowned for his role as Amuro Ray in “Mobile Suit Gundam.”
With the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” cast reuniting, fans were overjoyed, responding with comments like, “It’s the original voice!” “He sounded just like Amuro!” “I got chills from the unexpected casting!” “I’ve never been so happy!” and “I was honestly shocked and moved.”
“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest addition to the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, ongoing since 1979. The story follows high school girl Amate Yuzuriha, who lives peacefully on a space colony, and is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport, the “Clan Battle,” through an encounter with a girl named Nyaan (CV: Yui Ishikawa). Produced collaboratively by Studio Khara, known for the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series, and Sunrise, the show garnered attention even before its TV run; the theatrical advance screening, held in January this year, achieved major box office success with about 3.4 billion yen in ticket sales. As of June 20, it is being re-screened in 368 theaters nationwide.
