Maomao’s adorable smile had viewers completely smitten, saying things like, “I had no idea Maomao could smile like that. Anyone would fall for her after that!” “The honey-cute maid Maomao,” and “That smile is burned into my retinas.” Jinshi’s flustered reaction also created a stir: “His brain is totally fried, lol,” and “Every single one of his reactions is adorable,” were among the enthusiastic comments.

Currently, the entire anime “The Apothecary Diaries”—based on the light novel of the same name by Natsu Hyuuga—is available for streaming. The series has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines, with over 40 million copies in circulation. The TV anime began airing consecutively from October 2023, winning popularity for its mystery story about Maomao’s work as a “poison tester” in the imperial harem and the comical interactions between Maomao and Jinshi, becoming a huge topic of conversation. Season 2 of the anime began airing in January 2025.
