[Photos/Images] The Origin of the Iconic Phrase "Their Life Points Are Already at Zero!" The Intense Overkill Duel Scene in "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" 1st

By now, the phrase "Stop it! Their life points are already at zero!" has become a firmly established internet meme, but do you know where it came from? This so-called "legendary line" was delivered in Episode 162 of the anime "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters." However, watching the actual scene might change the impression you have of it.

Many people have likely seen the phrase "Stop it! Their life points are already at zero!" used in exchanges on social media. This quote often comes up when poking fun at situations that are considered excessive or over the top. But in its original context from "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" Episode 162, Yugi Mutou (voiced by Shunsuke Kazama) really takes "overkill" to another level.

Insector Haga (voiced by Urara Takano) used underhanded tactics in the duel, enraging Yugi. Although Yugi claimed a dramatic comeback victory, his anger did not subside. He continued to attack Haga repeatedly, even after Haga's life points had already dropped to zero. Anzu Masaki (voiced by Maki Saito), the heroine, was so appalled that she cried out in distress, "Stop it, Yugi! Haga's life points are already at zero—the duel is over!"

Thanks in no small part to the passionate performance by voice actor Shunsuke Kazama, Yugi’s relentless attacks—yelling lines like "Draw! Monster card!"—actually come across as quite terrifying. Although the phrase "Stop it! Their life points are already at zero!" is used today as a humorous meme, its original scene is actually rather unsettling.
