What drew even more attention was the appearance of the mobile suit that he supposedly gave magnet coating— the “Gelgoog.” However, to everyone’s eyes, this Gelgoog looked unmistakably like a “GM.” The machine fans had predicted would be a GM before broadcast turned out to be a surprise twist: it was revealed on air as the “Gelgoog,” leaving fans in an uproar.
Reactions mixed nostalgia, confusion, and humor, with comments like: “A GM appeared! But it’s a Gelgoog...?” and “Dude, your face has changed quite a lot...”
Even so, the depiction of clan battles making use of magnet coating and Stigma Attacks established the “Reiwa era’s Gelgoog” as more than just an homage. Combined with the reverse engineering aspect of the original mobile suit lore, it was highly praised as “confusing, but entertaining” and “true to the flavor of an ‘if story.’”
Following the “Reiwa-era protagonist-level comeback” of Challia Bull, now even these fan-favorite pieces— Mosk Han and the Gelgoog— have been brought into the mix. It was impossible for the “First Generation” not to react.
“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest entry in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, which began in 1979. The story revolves around high school girl Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), who lives peacefully in a space colony, but is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling competition known as “Clan Battle” after meeting the girl Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa). Co-produced by Studio Khara (known for the “Rebuild of Evangelion” film series) and Sunrise, the show became a hot topic even before its television premiere. The theatrical advance screening released this January was a major hit, earning approximately 3.4 billion yen at the box office. Nationwide re-screenings began at 368 theaters on June 20.
