Fern pushed Frieren’s duplicate so far that it was forced to get serious for the first time in 80 years, but in turn was shown an overwhelming “height of magic” and suffered a critical blow. However, thanks to a prearranged strategy and flawless teamwork between master and disciple, they ultimately succeeded in defeating the replicate. This overwhelming battle scene inspired high praise, with comments like “This has to be a movie!!!!!!”, “This is exactly what I expect from anime,” and “Animation at an incomprehensible level of intensity.”
The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is based on the manga of the same name by original creator Kanehito Yamada and artist Tsukasa Abe, currently serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday. Set in the world after the Demon King’s defeat, it follows Frieren, a mage who has lived for over a thousand years, as she embarks on a journey to “learn about humanity.” The original manga, acclaimed for winning numerous awards, now spans fourteen volumes with a cumulative circulation of over 24 million copies. It has also been announced that the second season of the TV anime will air starting January 2026.
