Online, this led to ecstatic reactions, with comments like “Gave me goosebumps” and “The staff really get it.” Long regarded by original fans as a “phantom BGM,” this track finally seeing the light of day brought surprise and emotion to many.

Many fans had considered “Char ga Kuru” the obvious choice, but this surprising selection drew praise such as “The balance of nostalgia and freshness is perfect” and “Maybe this actually suits the current show even better.” The sequences of the red Gundam darting across the battlefield and the modern refinement of the arranged BGM fit together perfectly.

While keeping the atmosphere of the original Gundam, the sound’s impact and expansiveness were updated for the present day. Even music enthusiasts commented “The arrangement is divine” and “The synchronization with the visuals is amazing,” with many impressed by the production team’s sense of style.

The staff’s deliberate avoidance of the “main choice” and use of a previously existing but unused track instead showcased their cleverness. This sense of playfulness and deep respect for the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” was evident even in their BGM selection.

“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest entry in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, which began in 1979. It tells the story of Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), a high school girl living peacefully in a space colony, who gets drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport “Clan Battle” through her encounter with the mysterious girl Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa). Co-produced by Studio Khara, known for the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series, and Sunrise, the collaboration was already hotly anticipated. The theatrical advance release in January of this year was a massive box office hit, earning approximately 3.4 billion yen. From June 20, it is being re-screened in 368 theaters nationwide.
