At this point, the “jaded stare” is not only synonymous with Machu, but has also become an iconic symbol of GQuuuuuuX itself. With its unique mix of charm and attitude, Machu’s quintessential expression has become indispensable to her character.

“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest installment in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, which has been ongoing since 1979. The story follows high school girl Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), who leads a peaceful life in a space colony until her encounter with the mysterious Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa) draws her into the world of the illegal mobile suit duel competition known as “Clan Battle.”

The collaborative production between Studio Khara—also known for “Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition”—and Sunrise has attracted much attention. The theatrical advance screening, released this January ahead of the TV series, became a blockbuster hit with approximately 3.4 billion yen in box-office revenue. From June 20, the film is being shown again in 368 theaters across Japan.
