“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest entry in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, which began in 1979. The story centers on Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), a high school girl living peacefully in a space colony, who becomes entangled in the underground mobile suit dueling competition, “Clan Battle,” after meeting the mysterious girl Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa).

Co-produced by Studio Khara, known for their work on the “Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition” series, and Sunrise, the collaboration has generated much buzz. The theatrical advance screening released this January was a massive hit, grossing about 3.4 billion yen. The film began its nationwide re-release in 368 theaters on June 20.
