Towards the end of the story, Challia decides to take responsibility for Char Aznable's killing of Kycillia Zabi, declaring, "I will atone for my crime with my life," and volunteers to appear before a military tribunal. However, Xavier Olivette (voiced by Seiichirō Yamashita) passionately retorts, "Aren't you supposed to create a world where Newtypes can live as Newtypes? Then do something about Zeon without the Zabi family! You have a responsibility!"
In other words, behind the mask may lie the "resolve to hide his face as someone bearing guilt," the "determination of one who has inherited the future of Zeon," and the "symbol of inheriting a role as ‘someone other than Char’"—all sorts of complex meanings could be embedded in it.
With Challia Bull now becoming a “masked character,” there’s no doubt that another “karma” has been added to the Gundam universe. By now, the mask is ideology, sin, determination, and position all at once. Bearing all of these, Challia Bull chose “that mask.” Perhaps it was his own way of expressing his determination to “take on responsibility.”
"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is the latest installment in the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, which began in 1979. The story follows high school girl Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), who lives peacefully in a space colony until her encounter with a girl named Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa) draws her into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport "Clan Battle." Co-produced by Studio Khara—known for the "Rebuild of Evangelion" film series—and Sunrise, the project gained immense attention. The theatrical advance screening released in January became a huge hit, grossing around 3.4 billion yen. The film is being re-screened in 368 theaters nationwide as of June 20.
