"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is the latest installment in the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, which began in 1979. The story follows Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), a high school girl peacefully living in a space colony, whose encounter with a girl named Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa) draws her into the underground mobile suit dueling competition, Clan Battle.

The joint production between Studio Khara, known for works like the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series, and Sunrise drew significant attention, and the theatrical pre-release, which came out this January ahead of the TV series, was a major hit with box-office revenue of approximately 3.4 billion yen. The film is being re-released in 368 theaters nationwide starting June 20.
