Episode 7 of the horror anime "The Summer Hikaru Died," which began airing sequentially from August 16, featured a shocking ending involving Yoshiki Tsujinaka (voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi) and Hikaru (voiced by Shūichirō Umeda). Following this, a special ending (ED) unfolded with a duet song by the two characters, leaving viewers buzzing with comments like, "Wait, is this the last episode?" and "The plot is moving so fast, I can't keep up emotionally."

After a certain day, Hikaru Indou was replaced by "Something Else" and became "Hikaru." At first, his best friend Yoshiki accepted this new Hikaru, but as Hikaru began to reveal thoughts different from a human's—and even attempted to harm their classmate Asako Yamagishi (voiced by Yumiri Hanamori)—Yoshiki became deeply troubled.

In episode 7, titled "Resolution," Yoshiki and Hikaru skip their school choir competition and spend a day together. Eventually, Yoshiki tries to kill Hikaru with a kitchen knife, but Hikaru doesn't die. Ultimately, Yoshiki declares, "I'll stay with you no matter what it costs me. Even if something inside me breaks," and, "If your wish is simply to be here, then let’s find out—what you really are." He resolves to stay with Hikaru, and the episode closes on an ominous note, with imagery suggesting Yoshiki is being absorbed by Hikaru.
