Scriptwriter Kimiko Ueno commented regarding Ariana, “She’s grown tired of being seen as ‘a good girl.’ Living life always expected to be a good person is tough, isn’t it? I think everyone feels envy, jealousy, or a little mean-spirited sometimes, but because Ariana is ‘a good girl,’ she questions if it’s okay to feel that way.” Furthermore, she added, “Ariana could be seen as a possible future version of Bo-chan. If Bo-chan is always expected to be ‘a good boy,’ he might have such worries during adolescence.” Ueno’s comments deepen the underlying theme of “being true to oneself” that runs throughout the film.

Asami Seto, who portrays Ariana, reflects on a memorable moment in the film: “When Bo-chan has turned into a ‘tyrant,’ Shinnosuke and the others say, ‘This isn’t the real Bo-chan.’ I believe those words resonated deeply with Ariana.” Anyone can struggle to be themselves, sometimes comparing themselves to others, and even wanting to deny who they are. That is exactly why Seto says, “If Ariana’s portrayal can in some way free the hearts of those who suffer because of their kindness, even just a little, I would be delighted.”

Regardless of age or gender, I believe many people will come to see this film. Like Ariana, there may be those struggling in their daily lives with feelings like, “I have to be a good person," or “I envy that person.” I hope Ariana’s story will, even if just a little, help to ease the hearts of those who struggle because of their kindness. Please come to the theater and meet Ariana.

With Snivel-Snuffling Boy Bo-chan and Bottom-Wiggling Boy Shinnosuke singing, dancing, and causing a ruckus in India, one of the highlights is Hiroshi’s “India Power,” which the producers worked tirelessly, sweating, crying, and even sniveling, to obtain permission for. Please come to the cinema to unleash the “India Power” that sleeps within you. India Power!
