“The Summer Hikaru Died” is based on the popular manga by Mokumokuren, which has surpassed 3.5 million copies in circulation. It is a youth horror story revolving around high school student Yoshiki and the “Something” that appears in the form of his best friend, Hikaru.

[Story Outline]
Yoshiki accepts Hikaru’s wish to “stay here,” and decides to investigate what Hikaru really is. Although the note from Hikaru mentioned “Nounuki-sama,” his own memories related to it remain hazy. Out of the blue, Hikaru’s grandfather asks, “Where did you put ‘Hichi-san’?” and the mysteries only deepen. Meanwhile, the corrupting influence of the kegare (impurity) begins to manifest within the school…
