It's Scary When Calm People Get Angry... The Quiet Fury of Jinshi in "The Apothecary Diaries" Even Frightens Maomao

What does it look like when a handsome man, who usually wears a gentle smile, gets truly angry...? In episode 38 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries," Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Ōtsuka) displays a quiet intensity while admonishing Former head lady-in-waiting (voiced by Hitomi Nabatame) that is terrifying enough to make Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yūki) break out in a cold sweat.

Jinshi, the eunuch who oversees the inner palace, maintains a calm demeanor and always interacts with a smile in front of the consorts and maidservants. Being an extraordinarily handsome man, he captivates those around him regardless of gender, but episode 38 depicts what happens when Jinshi gets angry.

Consort Lishu (voiced by Hina Kino), who became the emperor's consort at a young age, is being neglected by some maidservants. Former head lady-in-waiting took away an important mirror from her, saying, "Since you have a mirror given by the special envoy, you don't need this one anymore. Why not bestow it upon someone else?"

Jinshi gently rebuked Former head lady-in-waiting, saying, "That is an important item for Consort Lishu. I think taking it without proper confirmation is quite inappropriate," and then touched her hairpin, asking, "Was this also bestowed upon you?"

Apparently, the hairpin should belong to a high-ranking consort. Jinshi coldly stated, "Even if it was bestowed, don't you think it's inappropriate for a mere maid to wear something bearing the crest of a high-ranking consort?" He firmly warned Former head lady-in-waiting, saying, "From now on, please refrain from actions that do not befit your position." Maomao, witnessing Jinshi's quiet force, gave a wry smile, muttering, "Scary..."
