The decision to cosplay Haruko from "FLCL" came as a recommendation from a friend who had just come out!

——Please tell us about when you first encountered "FLCL" and what aspects of it you find appealing.

Yaake: I encountered "FLCL" about two months before participating in Wonder Festival. The first time I watched it, I was shocked by its freedom of expression, thinking, "What is this work?!" There were many parts I couldn't understand at first, and honestly, I was bewildered.

However, since it's only six episodes long, as I watched it several times, there were moments when I realized, "There is indeed a proper setting," while there were still parts I couldn't grasp. Even so, the overwhelming energy and unique atmosphere that permeate the entire work are what I find most captivating about it.

One of my favorite scenes is the ending of episode 5, where Haruko steps on Naota. I feel like this scene really captures her personality. The characters I choose to cosplay are usually girls with whom I can find a resonating part within myself. The moment I saw this scene, I decided, "I have to do Haruhara Haruko!" (laughs).

I've only been able to showcase my Haruko cosplay at this year's Wonder Festival, so moving forward, I'd like to challenge myself with studio and location shoots, as well as photography that takes advantage of lens characteristics. I hope to continue creating and cosplaying characters and works that resonate with my tastes, all while maintaining my personal touch and dedication!
