An Unexpectedly Heartwarming Episode! The Anime-Original “Everyday Happiness” of Tengen Uzui and His Wives in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Tengen Uzui (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi), who appears in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, is a character popular as the “ideal husband.” In episode 9 of the anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc,” there was an anime-original scene that was not in the original manga, depicting interactions between Uzui and his wives that resembled a romance story.

Tengen, one of the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, holds the title of Sound Hashira, and has three wives: Hinatsuru (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki), Makio (voiced by Shizuka Ishigami), and Suma (voiced by Nao Toyama). In addition to his handsome features, Uzui’s kindness toward his wives even during battle has led many fans to hail him as the “ideal husband.”

In episode 9 of the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc,” an anime-original flashback scene is shown in which Uzui visits graves together with his wives. Amidst flourishing cherry blossoms, Uzui gently smiles at his wives and says, “For the sake of my siblings who have passed away, I’m going to live as flamboyantly as I can. Together with you all.”

Uzui softly removes a cherry blossom petal from Hinatsuru’s hair. Pleased, Hinatsuru gently takes the petal and asks, “May I have that petal?” cherishing it. Then Makio and Suma chime in, saying, “Lord Uzui, me too!” which suddenly makes the hanami (flower viewing) gathering lively and cheerful.
