The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it depicts the battle of a young boy, Tanjiro Kamado, whose family was killed by demons. The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” began airing in April 2019 and became an instant sensation. The sequel, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The total worldwide circulation of the original manga now exceeds 220 million copies, making it a historic hit in the world of Japanese manga and anime.
Following “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime continued with the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” The concluding episodes will be adapted into a trilogy titled “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle.” “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza’s Return,” which premiered on July 18, 2025, has grossed over 31.4 billion yen in its first 52 days.
