The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it tells the story of Tanjirō, a young boy whose family was killed by demons, and his battles to save his remaining family.
The TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc began airing in April 2019, immediately gaining attention. Its sequel, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train, surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The cumulative worldwide circulation of the original manga now stands at 220 million copies, making it a historic hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the Unwavering Resolve Arc, the TV anime broadcast Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc. The final episodes, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle, are being produced as a trilogy. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza’s Return, which has been screening since July 18, 2025, earned over 33 billion yen within its first 60 days. The movie is gradually being released overseas, and total worldwide box office revenue, including Japan, has surpassed 68 billion yen.
